Here are a few commonly asked questions:

Q: Do I need to apply a sealer to my stone?
A: The quality of the material does not require additional protective treatments, however we do recommend the use of a sealant to help clean and maintain the material in the future.  This is especially true for cook tops or counter tops, areas that stay damp or a shielded from the sun, or high traffic areas.

Q: My stone appears dirty and stained, what should I do?
A: Do NOT used any abrasive cleaners, masonry washes, acids, or products containing bleach.  Even approved cleaners should always be tested on concealed area first.  The density of the stone helps keep outside elements from truly “staining” the stone.  Discoloration is limited to the surface rather than being impregnated.  The surface dirt is essentially self cleaning via the elements.  Normal “housekeeping” or maintenance of your natural stone involves an as needed washing with clean, potable water and a neutral (pH-7), mildly abrasive cleaner (i.e. Enviro Klean® 2010 All Surface Cleaner).  If the area can not be cleaned by scrubbing alone, we recommend the use of clean, pressurized water.  The pressure of the water should not exceed 800 psi, and a “25° or greater fan tip” should be used.  Steam cleaning is also an excellent option for areas where pressurized water cannot be used.  In the event that staining occurs, you may contact our company for further assistance.  We will work with you and a qualified expert who can help pinpoint the type of stain, and a method of treatment.

Q: My stone has been damaged during/after installation.  Can it be repaired?
A: Your stone can be repaired depending on the location and severity of the damage.  In extreme instances when the material needs to be replaced, our staff will work with you to fabricate the closest possible match to the existing piece.  Most incidents are minor, and can be repaired with a simple patch kit.  These kits are available upon request from Valders Stone & Marble, Inc.  For the best results, work with a qualified professional to complete this delicate repair.
